Welcome to Torrevieja, one of the most attractive places to live on Spain's Costa Blanca. At Rosa Mediterranean Houses, we have been established in this beautiful region since 1989, helping buyers from all over Europe find their ideal property.
Whether you are looking for a holiday apartment, a permanent residence, a retirement home or an investment property, Torrevieja offers an exceptional quality of life. Beautiful beaches, more than 300 days of sunshine every year, modern healthcare, excellent restaurants and a vibrant international community make this city one of the most desirable destinations on the Mediterranean coast.
Thanks to our long experience in the local property market, we know every neighbourhood, every beach and every residential area. Throughout this guide we would like to share with you why so many of our clients choose Torrevieja as their new home.
The name Torrevieja literally means "Old Tower". It refers to an ancient coastal watchtower that once stood near today's harbour. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, several watchtowers were built along the Mediterranean coast to protect local communities from pirate attacks. The old tower that gave its name to the town became an important landmark for sailors and fishermen navigating this part of the Spanish coastline.
For many years the surrounding area remained a small settlement dedicated mainly to fishing and salt production. Everything changed when the nearby salt lakes became one of Spain's most important sources of sea salt. Their strategic importance transformed Torrevieja into a busy commercial port that exported thousands of tonnes of salt across Europe and overseas.
In 1829, a powerful earthquake devastated much of the town and neighbouring villages. Rather than abandoning the area, Torrevieja was rebuilt with wider streets and a more modern urban design, allowing the city to continue growing throughout the nineteenth century.
One of the most fascinating chapters of Torrevieja's history is its close relationship with La Habana, Cuba. For decades, merchant ships left Torrevieja carrying salt to the Caribbean and returned with products from Havana. These regular sea routes created strong commercial and cultural ties between both ports.
The influence of Cuba can still be felt today through the city's most famous musical tradition: the Habaneras. These songs, whose name comes directly from Havana, were brought back by sailors after crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Over time they became an essential part of Torrevieja's identity and are now celebrated every summer during the prestigious International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition, one of the world's leading choral festivals.
This unique cultural heritage makes Torrevieja different from many other coastal towns on the Costa Blanca and is one of the reasons visitors immediately notice the city's strong maritime character.
Climate is one of the main reasons why people choose to live in Torrevieja. The city enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine each year with mild winters and warm summers cooled by Mediterranean sea breezes.
The nearby salt lakes help create a unique microclimate that has been recognised for its pleasant conditions. Many international buyers choose Torrevieja not only for its beaches but also for the comfortable lifestyle that the local climate makes possible throughout the year.
Torrevieja offers a wide variety of beaches, each with its own atmosphere. Playa del Cura is one of the city's best-known beaches and is surrounded by cafés and restaurants. Playa de Los Locos offers a relaxed environment close to the promenade, while La Mata features one of the longest sandy beaches on the Costa Blanca.
Nature lovers often enjoy Cala Ferris, famous for its palm trees and crystal-clear water, while families appreciate the calm waters of Los Náufragos. Every beach offers excellent facilities, making Torrevieja an ideal destination for both holidays and permanent living.

No visit to Torrevieja would be complete without walking along Paseo Juan Aparicio. This elegant seafront promenade perfectly reflects the Mediterranean lifestyle, with restaurants, cafés, terraces and spectacular sea views.
Just a few steps away, the famous Dique de Levante extends into the sea and offers one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the city. It is one of our favourite places to introduce clients to Torrevieja because it perfectly represents the relaxed lifestyle that attracts so many people to this part of the Costa Blanca.

One of Torrevieja's greatest treasures is the Natural Park of La Mata and Torrevieja. The park is famous for its spectacular Pink Salt Lake, one of the most photographed natural attractions on the Costa Blanca. The unique colour of the water is created by natural microorganisms and the high salt concentration, producing an extraordinary landscape that changes throughout the day.
The park is also home to flamingos and many other bird species, making it a paradise for nature lovers, photographers and anyone who enjoys walking or cycling in peaceful surroundings. We often recommend visiting the park at sunset, when the colours become truly unforgettable.
Living in Torrevieja means enjoying everything you need within easy reach. The city offers a fantastic combination of traditional Spanish markets, modern shopping centres and local businesses.
The weekly street market is one of the largest in Alicante Province, attracting both residents and visitors looking for fresh fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, clothing, flowers and regional products. It is a wonderful place to experience authentic Mediterranean life.
In the evening, many people stroll along Paseo Juan Aparicio, where the famous Hippie Market offers handmade jewellery, paintings, leather goods, souvenirs and artisan crafts in a relaxed atmosphere beside the Mediterranean Sea.
One of the reasons why we enjoy helping buyers in Torrevieja is the variety of neighbourhoods available. Every area has its own personality, allowing each client to find a location that perfectly matches their lifestyle.
Centro is ideal for people who enjoy having restaurants, shops and the marina within walking distance. Playa del Cura and Playa de Los Locos remain among the most popular areas for buyers looking for properties close to the beach.
La Mata is well known for its long sandy beach and relaxed atmosphere, while Aguas Nuevas, Torreblanca and Nueva Torrevieja offer modern residential communities close to schools, supermarkets and sports facilities.
If you prefer more space and a quieter environment, areas such as Los Balcones, San Luis, El Chaparral and Acequión provide an excellent balance between peaceful residential living and easy access to the city centre.
Whatever your priorities may be, our experience allows us to recommend the neighbourhood that best fits your lifestyle, your family and your investment goals.
Torrevieja has become one of the Costa Blanca's favourite destinations for food lovers. Fresh seafood, traditional rice dishes, Mediterranean cuisine and tapas can be enjoyed throughout the city, while the large international community has also introduced excellent Italian, Belgian, British, French, Scandinavian and Asian restaurants.
One of the pleasures of everyday life here is simply sitting on a sunny terrace overlooking the sea while enjoying lunch with family or friends. This relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle is one of the reasons so many people decide to make Torrevieja their permanent home.
Unlike many coastal resorts, Torrevieja remains active throughout the year. Residents benefit from modern healthcare centres, pharmacies, sports clubs, international schools, marinas, supermarkets, shopping centres and countless leisure activities.
Habaneras Shopping Centre and the nearby Ozone Leisure Centre offer shopping, restaurants, cinemas and entertainment for the whole family, making everyday life comfortable and enjoyable regardless of the season.
While Torrevieja offers an energetic atmosphere all year round, some buyers prefer quieter residential areas surrounded by golf courses, green spaces and beautiful coves. If that sounds like your ideal lifestyle, we would also be delighted to introduce you to Orihuela Costa, located only a few minutes from Torrevieja.
